A development in an incident that has caused outrage around the world and especially in India where authorities have charged five men with the kidnap, gang rape and murder of a woman in Delhi last month.

The 23-year-old died of her injuries two weeks after the 16 December attack.

The five men will be tried in a fast-track court, where they could be handed the death penalty.

A sixth suspect will be tried in a juvenile court.

The trial is expected to start this weekend.

Neither the woman nor her family can be identified under Indian law.

Meanwhile — dozens of protesters rallied outside the Indian consulate in Toronto to add their support to calls for better treatment of women in India.

Demonstrators  called  for men  to better respect women, and criticized what they say is an Indian legal system that ignores violence against females.
