Ontario’s Auditor General will issue his annual report today.

Jim McCarter will tell us whether the Ontario Provincial Police is spending its $979-million budget wisely.

McCarter will also look at the effectiveness of the Drive Clean program that began in 1999 to see if it is actually reducing vehicle emissions.

In all, the Auditor General has selected 13 areas of provincial government responsibility for this year’s report.

McCarter will also look at topics ranging from cancer screening programs and admissions to long term care homes to the Metrolinx transportation agency.

The government says it welcome’s today’s report. Finance Minister Dwight Duncan has been briefed on its contents. He says there are no bombshells, but some good recommendations that the province will act on.
