As we get deeper into the season of giving a simple photograph of human kindness is creating an online sensation.
It shows a New York City police officer giving new all-weather boots and thermal socks to a barefoot homeless man in Times Square.
A tourist from Arizona named Jennifer Foster recorded officer Larry DePrimo’s generosity on her cellphone.
It was posted on the NYPD Facebook page and became an instant hit.
The photo shows the officer kneeling beside the man with the boots at his feet. A shoe store is seen in the background.
Foster says the officer didn’t know she was watching and quotes him as saying to the man, “I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.”
Officer DePrimo told The New York Times that he keeps the receipt for the boots in his vest pocket to remind him that ” sometimes people have it worse.”
