Academy award-winning director  Danny Boyle has joined leading British artists   protesting against the planned sale of a valuable  Henry Moore sculpture.

“Draped Seated Woman”   is owned by London’s Tower Hamlets Council.

The work has stood for years  at a public housing complex in the city’s east end.

But now,  the council says it wants to sell the bronze artwork.  

Estimates of the sculpture’s value range from  $8 million to $32 million dollars .

A campaign has been started to return the artwork to east London –  a poverty-scarred area that hosted this summer’s Olympic Games.

Here in Toronto   The Art Gallery of Ontario has an extensive collection of Henry Moore works totalling more than 900 sculptures and works on paper.

At city hall  a Henry Moore sculpture officially titled  Three-Way Piece No. 2  but commonly known as the Archer, was commissioned by Architect Viljo Revell  to complement the flowing lines of the building.
