New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered New York City’s transit service to suspend bus, subway and commuter rail service in advance of the massive storm that’s expected to hit the eastern third of the U.S. in the coming days.

Forecasters say Hurricane Sandy is running parallel to the Southeast coast and likely to turn toward the mid-Atlantic by tomorrow night.

Southern and eastern regions of Ontario could see between 50-and 100-millimetres of rainfall late tomorrow and early Tuesday.

Damaging winds are possible as well.

Sandy will bring heavy rain and high winds to Quebec and the Maritimes after moving through Ontario.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the hurricane has risen to 65 as flooding continues in Haiti
