The Toronto Transit Commission is going to vote on a recommendation to ask Queen’s Park for help in building a downtown relief subway line.
The provincial transit agency, Metrolinx, doesn’t plan on building another downtown subway line for at least another 25 years. But the TTC says immediate help is needed to take pressure off the downtown portion of the Yonge-University line, where ridership is expected to increase by 50 per cent over the next 20 years.
The downtown relief line would run from the Pape station to the King and St. Andrew’s Stations, then continue west to Roncesvales. It would cost about six billion dollars.
