Canada’s finance minister says no one will be shocked by what’s in today’s omnibus budget bill.  Jim Flaherty plans today to unveil the Harper government’s latest budget package.

The second budget implementation act is expected to contain measures to reform M-P and public sector pensions as well as a host of tax changes. Flaherty says the bill will simply follow up on legislation adopted in the spring to implement the first phase of his government’s March budget.

But N-D-P Leader Tom Mulcair says he expects the Conservatives to try to pull a fast one in the budget bill by including things that his party could never support.  He says, “Of course the Conservatives are always about the next stunt.  So, you can be sure they’ll probably try to tuck that in there.  And if there are a sufficient number of poison pills in there, and they don’t only deal with job creation, they know they’ll be provoking us to vote against something that is inevitable we wouldn’t be able to vote for”.

The spring budget bill drew widespread criticism for bundling together changes to dozens of laws, some of which the Opposition said had no place in a budget bill.
