A crown lawyer says a Canadian naval officer shared a “vast amount” of sensitive information when he spied for the Russians.

Sub-Lieutenant Jeffrey Paul Delisle  pleaded guilty in a Halifax courtroom to espionage and breach of trust today.

He will have to wait until January to hear his punishment.

Federal Crown attorney Lyne Decarie outlined the case against Delisle during a March bail hearing, saying he voluntarily approached Russian officials in 2007 and offered to sell them information.

Decarie said Delisle transmitted data from the intelligence centre in downtown Halifax to his home and then on to Russian agents.
