The 2012 Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to Serge Haroche of France and David Wineland of the U.S.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences have cited the two scientists “for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems.”
An award winning Canadian was among the favourites for the physics prize. Professor Gilles Brassard, a quantum physicist at the University of Montreal, was the co-recipient last year of the prestigious Killam Prize for accomplishments in scientific research. Brassard has been described as ”one of Canada’s science superstars” for his pioneering work in quantum information science. This is day two of the Nobel prize announcements.
