Toronto cyclists lost out on an attempt to reverse the decision to remove the bike lanes from Jarvis Street.

City Council voted not to re-visit the decision to remove the bike lanes and return to a reversible fifth lane for vehicles.

Some councillors had hoped to convince their colleagues to re-open debate on the bike lanes that were installed on the orders of the last council.

The city is installing dedicated bike lanes on nearby Sherbourne street. The Jarvis lanes will remain until the Sherbourne route is finished.

A busy first day of city council also saw a decision to sell Enwave Energy for $100,000,000. The controversial ban on plastic bags will be dealt with today.
