The Opposition parties are beefing up their protest against the Harper Conservatives over concerns about the safety of Canada’s meat supply.
At the heart of the issue is the recall of beef products from the X-L Food plant in Brooks, Alberta, which was triggered in early September and keeps getting bigger.
Interim Liberal leader Bob Rae is demanding to know why it took more than two weeks for Ottawa to notify Canadians about the risk of meat from the plant.
Meantime, N-D-P leader Tom Mulcair conjured memories of the Maple Leaf Foods listeriosis outbreak of 2008, which happened under the watch of current Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.
