Prime Minister Harper is set to meet with his Israeli counterpart in New York today after both leaders issued public condemnations of Iran.

Benjamin Netanyahu told the U-N yesterday that Iran will be able to make a nuclear bomb by next summer.

And last night, Prime Minister Harper suggested Iran poses a clear and present danger as he accepted an international statesman award from a New York-based group.

Harper also took a dig at the United Nations during his speech, saying Canadians expect their government to make decisions for the wider interests of humanity.  He explained, “that’s not the same thing as trying to court every dictator with a vote at the United Nations, or just going along with every emerging international census no matter how self-evidently wrongheaded.”

Prime Minister Harper was presented with his award by former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
