CANADA CHOOSES ENTRY FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE OSCAR RACE

Canada now  has an official entry in this year’s foreign language Academy Award race. Rebelle by Montreal born filmmaker Kim Nguyen has been chosen by Telefilm Canada.

The harrowing drama stars newcomer Rachel Mwanza as a teen who is forced to become a child soldier with rebels in Sub-Saharan Africa. Producer Marie-Claude Poulin of the production company Item Seven says,  Mwanza was abandoned by her parents and had to live on the streets in Kinshasa. She has won best-actress awards at the 2012 Tribeca and Berlin film festivals for the role.
