Twenty thousand Ontario auto workers are on the job this morning.

A midnight strike deadline for the Canadian Autoworkers Union passed without any job action being called.

CAW negotiators are continuing to talk with Chrysler and General Motors after reaching a tentative agreement with Ford.

Union president Ken Lewenza says the two companies have asked for more time to study the tentative deal. He says the union will keep talking with the two companies as long as progress is being made. But he adds that if there’s any sign of talks stalling he will issue an immediate 24-hour strike notice.
