US AMBASSADOR KILLED IN LIBYA OVER ANTI-MUSLIM FILM

The US is confirming that its ambassador to Libya was killed near the consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other consular officials were killed in the violence that was triggered by a film ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad.

The film, Innocence of Muslims, was made by California-born Sam Bacile, who identifies himself as an Israeli. The movie portrays the Prophet Mohammad as a fraud. Bacile has called Islam  a cancer. He has gone into hiding.

The film also triggered an attack on the US embassy in Egypt.

The US has increaed security at its embassies and consulates around the world.
