Toronto’s Mayor will be back in a University Avenue courtroom Thursday in a case that could remove him from municipal politics for 7 years. Rob Ford is accused of not declaring a conflict of interest when he gave a speech in defence of his actions and took part in a council vote in February. The vote came out in Ford’s favour, reversing a recommendation that he repay donations that he solicited using official City of Toronto letterhead for his private football foundation. The Mayor repeatedly denied any wrongdoing during his testimony on Wednesday. Ford told the court had he known he was in a possible conflict of interest at the meeting that overturned the recommendation, he would have excused himself from the vote. The Mayor also revealed he hadn’t read the conflict of interest guidelines for city councillors.
