Toronto’s Factory Theatre has announced two replacements for Artistic Director Ken Gass, who was fired by the board in June.
Director/playwright Nina Lee Aquino and actor/director Nigel Shawn Williams will work together to draft a new 2012-13 season. That became necessary after playwrights Michel Marc Bouchard, George F. Walker, and Judith Thompson all pulled their plays from the coming season in a boycott over the firing of Gass, who founded Factory Theatre and came out of retirement to save it from bankruptcy.
Forty-five hundred theatre artists have signed a statement boycotting the theatre because of the board’s actions. They include Martha Henry, Atom Egoyan, Fiona Reid and R.H. Thomson.
