Hurricane Isaac is beginning to move inland in southeast Louisiana while still a category one storm.
Authorities say a storm surge driven by the hurricane is spilling over a levee in a thinly populated area south of New Orleans. Word from the U.S. National Hurricane Centre in Miami this morning is that Isacc’s centre is expected to pass over Louisiana today and tomorrow and on to Arkansas early Friday.
The main threat is flooding. Isaac is moving so slowly, and dumping so much rain into the area, that there could be flooding even if the levees, built after Hurricane Katrina, hold.
