Women authors are beginning to match their male counterparts in terms of earnings.

Forbes magazine says more women are making it onto its list of the world’s richest authors, and placing higher.

James Patterson and Stephen King topped the list on earnings from May of last year to this year. But the magazine is looking at Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games series; and  J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter franchise, whose first novel for adults is coming out in the fall.

Collins placed ninth on the list, but is expected to place higher in the future because she has yet to see all the proceeds from the blockbuster film version of her first novel.

Rowling just missed placing in the top ten, coming eleventh with earnings of $17-million. That included an $8-million advance for her first adult book, The Casual Vacancy.

Then there’s E.L. James, who’s erotic trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey, is still holding onto the top three spots on the best-seller’s charts. She’s expected to make the Forbes list next year.

The top woman on the list currently is Janet Evanovich, who placed third.
