Ontario’s  Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian is still steaming  after learning ” Elections Ontario” still did not encrypt data after it lost two U-S-B keys containing the personal information of 2.4 million voters.

Cavoukian says the agency  used new memory sticks after losing the first two, but again… did not encrypt the information.

Cavoukian says staff at “Elections Ontario’ didn’t know what encryption meant, so they Googled it and mistakenly concluded that “compressing files” was the same as encrypting the data.

Encryption transforms files to make them unreadable without the proper key.
