Toronto has a new short-film initiative.

The city will partner with the Canadian Film Centre and “ithentic”  in the  effort featuring  five emerging filmmakers from Toronto.

They’ll get the chance  to learn from some of Canada’s  most acclaimed filmmakers, including Jennifer Baichwal and  Bruce McDonald.

The  films to be produced over the next three to four months will provide an innovative look at some of Toronto’s untold stories. In addition to the mentorship experience, each of the selected filmmakers will receive $10,000 in financial support toward the production of a short film that highlights Toronto.

Film and video production work and its direct spin-off business contributed $1.13 Billion  to the local economy in 2011.
