Canada’s Foreign Affairs Department has confirmed that two Canadians were among the aid workers who were freed after being kidnapped in East Africa on Friday.

Foreign Affairs issued an enthusiastic note saying officials are “elated” over the news.

Steven Dennis of Toronto and Qurat-Ul-Ain Sadazai of Quebec were freed, along with a Norwegian and a Philipino.

The four workers were snatched on the weekend in Kenya, spirited into Somalia, and held for four days before being rescued by a Somali militia group.
