The federal government is offering its assistance in the attempt to find a survivor in the rubble of a collapsed mall in Elliot Lake, Ontario.

It’s the second offer of help from a senior level of government. The province stepped in yesterday after rescue crews on the site felt the situation was too dangerous for them to proceed.

Premier Dalton McGuinty urged them to continue, and offered provincial assistance in using heavy machinery to try to dismantle the wreckage.

Now, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has offered the assistance of military engineers if they’re required.

There is still the possibility that one person might still be alive in the rubble.
