The semi-sanctioned Russian soprano Anna Natrebko has made a triumphant return to the stage in Paris.
The 52-year old has scored a major public triumph at the Bastille as Adriana Lecouvreur earning standing ovations after two arias and again at the close.
Netrebko will sing the role once more tomorrow night.
Last summer the Russian opera singer sued New York City’s Metropolitan Opera, for $360-thousand after she was dropped following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
She was urged to speak out against Russian President Vladimir Putin and the war he started.
She eventually condemned the conflict but stopped short of denouncing the Russian president.
An arbitrator ruled that that the Met did violate her contract and awarded Natrebko more than $200-thousand in compensation.
