First, the provincial auditor-general reviewed the Greenbelt land swap scandal which found certain developers were favoured when parcels of land were removed from the protected area.
That eventually led to a criminal investigation currently being carried out by the RCMP.
Now, the Auditor-General’s office is conducting a value-for-money audit into the government’s plan to revamp Ontario Place, that includes a private luxury spa, and relocation of the Science Centre to the waterfront.
”People know this is a bad deal for Ontario,” says NDP Leader Marit Stiles.
”I’m confident the auditor-general’s report will confirm that.”
NDP MPP Chris Glover, whose Spadina-Fort York riding is home to Ontario Place, says the audit should mean immediately pausing the site preparation, including removal of hundreds of trees.
”Stop the bulldozing until this audit is complete.”
