While ’tis pumpkin time, the Trudeau government makes it clear, as far as its carbon pricing policy is concerned, there will be ”no more carve-outs coming.”
The words of Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson as he headed in to a cabinet meeting.
He was repeated asked about the three-year pause on the federal carbon tax on home heating oil, and whether the government is considering the calls to expand the break across all forms of home heating.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s not impressed by the prime minister’s announcement in Atlantic Canada, where about one-third of homes still using heating oil.
”They’ve lost their credibility on climate change,” says Singh.
”They put in place a plan that should be bringing Canadians together and then used that instead to divide Canadians.”
He’s revived his call for the Liberals to lower costs for all Canadians by taking the GST off home heating.
