Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly’s office says the government has learned of another Canadian killed in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
No other information from Global Affairs about the victim or where the death occurred.
The Trudeau government confirms two Canadians are still missing in the region.
Aid groups are on Parliament Hill stepping up calls for more humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip, while Canada expects to weigh in tomorrow in a UN General Assembly debate on the issue.
Global Affairs Canada says it’s currently helping 430 Canadians and their family members who have registered in Gaza, as well as 176 in Israel and 76 in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military says its troops and tanks briefly entered northern Gaza overnight, striking several terrorist targets as ”part of our preparations for the next stages of the war.”
Retired general Benny Gantz, who’s part of the war cabinet, says any possible ground offensive would be only ”one stage in a long-term process that includes security, political and social aspects that will take years.”
”The campaign will soon ramp up with greater force.”
