Canada is joining many other foreign governments working to determine how many of their citizens are among the dead or missing in Israel and Gaza.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly issued a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Tuesday night, saying Ottawa is planning to airlift Canadians out of Tel Aviv in “the coming days” using Canada’s military aircraft.
She says the government is also working on options for people who are unable to reach the airport in Tel Aviv.
Joly’s statement did not mention the Gaza Strip, where some Canadians are believed to be trapped as Israel closes off the Hamas-controlled territory in a retaliatory measure following the horrific terror attacks of this past Saturday on Israel.
She says more details will be available Wednesday.
Two Canadian men are among the thousand people killed in the Hamas Terror attacks in Israel.
They were 33 year old Alexandre Look of Montreal and 22 year old Ben Mizrachi of Vancouver.
Both were killed by Hamas terrorists at the music festival in Israel where hundreds of others were also shot down.
Meantime, Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles has told one of her MPPs to retract a controversial social media post that focuses on the plight of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, but does not mention the violent terror attack by Hamas or the lives lost in Israel.
Stiles says she has asked Hamilton Centre’s Sara Jama to retract her statement and state clearly that she decries any violence against both Israeli and Palestinian people.
The move follows calls from Jewish groups for Stiles to immediately remove the MPP from the NDP caucus.
Back in March, Jama was forced to apologize for harmful remarks made about Israel.
