A warning from police that seniors in the Toronto-area are still getting calls from fraudsters pretending to be their grandchildren.
The ruse cost Canadians $9.2-million in 2022; quite the jump from $2.4-milion lost the previous year.
A police news release asks anyone who gets such a call or solicitation to contact them.
Most of the fraud last year was in Ontario.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says over $5.4-milion of the $9.2-millionĀ in losses were in Ontario.
The CAFC asks the public to connect with seniors in their lives, warn them about the scams and encourage them to report any incidents.
”This one conversation could be life changing,” said Chris Lynam of CAFC.
