Former Mayor John Tory violated the city’s code of conduct by engaging in a personal relationship with a staffer in his office, Toronto’s integrity commissioner has determined.
The integrity commissioner has also found Tory violated the code by taking part in a city council vote on Toronto’s FIFA World Cup bid because the former staffer in question had gone to a job at a company involved in the matter.
Tory resigned this past February after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with the former staffmember and asked the integrity commissioner to probe the matter.
His resignation generated headlines across Canada and around the world and resulted in a mayoral byelection in June which saw 101 candidates run to become the next mayor, including the winner, Olivia Chow.
