Doug Ford’s finally decided it’s best to throw his government’s plans for Greenbelt development into reverse.
”I made a promise to you that I wouldn’t touch the Greenbelt. I broke that promise,” a subdued, wounded sounding premier announced as his cabinet stood in the background.
”It was a mistake to open the Greenbelt. It was a mistake to establish a process that moved too fast. This process, it left too much room for some people to benefit over others. It caused people to question our motives.”
Ford adds in the next election, voters will have the chance to decide ”how I’ve done. To decide if I’ve kept my promises, if I got it done.”
NDP Leader Marit Stiles calls it a victory for all Ontarians.
”But I don’t trust them for a second until it’s actually done. And I’m going to bring forward my legislation on Monday to make sure that we fully reverse their decision.”
