As expected, annual inflation in August rose to 4-percent from 3.3-percent in July, largely due to higher gas prices.
Grocery prices continue to rise year over year, albeit at a slower pace, up 6.9-percent last month from August of 2022.
But here’s the good news. Grocery prices actually fell 0.4-percent from July to August of this year.
The Trudeau Liberals in Ottawa say they are taking steps to blunt the cost of groceries.
The CEOs of the big grocery retailers attended a meeting they were summoned to on Parliament Hill Monday with a goal to stabilize food prices.
Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says everyone is on board.
“I am pleased to have seen the constructive tone of the discussion over the course of the two hours and bottom line, is that they have agreed to support the Government of Canada in our efforts to stabilize food prices in Canada,” Champagne detailed after the meeting.
