The title is taken from a hit single by The Shirelles from 1961.

Shirelle’s singer Beverly Lee says she learned a valuable lesson from Chuck Berry: get paid before you hit the stage.

In the new book, “But Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” Lee says sometimes the promoters would run off with the money from shows in 1950s and 60s.

The book is an oral history 60’s girl groups featuring stories from The Shirelles, The Ronettes, The Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas.

The authors say a lot of the details of those groups were buried in stories about the producers or record labels and not about the group’s themselves.

The book, which aims to correct that narrative, is in stores now.
