Autoworkers in Ontario are keeping a close eye on developments in a strike by their American counterparts.

About 13,000 U.S. workers are on strike against the three big U.S. auto companies after failing to reach a new contract.

Members of the United Auto Workers are simultaneously picketing a GM assembly plant in Missouri, a Ford factory in Michigan and a Stellantis Jeep plant in Ohio.

U.S. President Joe Biden is sending two of his top aides to Detroit to help try and resolve the job action. Biden is taking the side of the workers, opining that automakers need to do a better job in sharing the large profits they’ve made over the past several years.
