Anthony Freud has announced he’ll be retiring as general director at the end of the season.

Before taking over in Chicago, he was director of the Welsh National Opera from 1994 to 2005 and the Houston Grand Opera from 2006 to 2011.

Freud turns 66 next month and says he intends to return to Britain after 13-years in Chicago.
