The first city in Canada to sign an agreement under the new national funding program to speed up housing development is London.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the deal will result in 2,000 homes built over three-years.
”This landmark agreement with London will be the first of many and we look forward to working with all orders of government to help everyone find a place to call their own,” said Trudeau.
London’s agreement will see the city receive $74-million, allowing it to approve high-density developments without the need for rezoning.
Trudeau’s now challenging ”mayors right across the country to step up with their proposals.”
The Housing Accelerator Fund allocates $4-billion until 2026-27 to prompt cities to build more.
