NEW ONTARIO HOUSING MINISTER WON'T SPECULATE ON FUTURE OF GREENBELT

The future of Ontario’s Greenbelt is uncertain as the new housing minister refuses to provide a specific answer as to whether the Ford PCs are committed to a permanent Greenbelt.

A day after acknowledging a coming review could result in more land being removed from the protected zone, Paul Calandra did not answer directly when asked if the government is committed to a permanent Greenbelt.

But he did say, if the land already removed for housing development does not meet the proper standards it will be returned to the Greenbelt.

“We will not hesitate to remove lands, whether it’s an MZO (Ministerial Zoning Order) if they do not meet our goals of building 1.5 million homes, we will take action,” Calandra stated.

The big question surrounding the Ford Government’s push to build homes on the Greenbelt, is why?

Last year, a provincial task force concluded there is enough serviced land elsewhere in the province to build the houses, and recommended more density in cities and suburbs…
