Legendary American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett has died. He had been fighting Merkel cell skin cancer at the time of his death, according to an updated obituary on his official website.

His song Margaritaville was his biggest hit. It was released in 1977 and spent 22 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

A statement posted to his website says Buffett passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.

The statement also reads that he lived his life like a song till the very last breath.

Buffet had struggled with an undisclosed health issue in 2022, when he was hospitalized and forced to cancel several shows.
