Perimeter fences, gate controls and road infrastructure are getting an upgrade at 11 border crossings between Canada and the US.
The Canadian Border Services Agency says the changes come in response to the “Freedom Convoy” protests that blocked several crossings last year.
It’s estimated as much as $3.9-billion in trade activity was halted because of the blockades, which was one of the factors that lead to the Prime Minister invoking the Emergencies Act.
Other security improvements include speed bumps, closed circuit television upgrades, building access controls and improved lighting.
