Famed baroque music conductor John Eliot Gardiner is taking a break.

In fact, the 80-year old British conductor is pulling out of future engagements after allegedly hitting a singer who left the stage incorrectly after a performance.

Gardiner says h’s going to get help from a specialist.

Last week Gardiner apparently hit 29-year old British bass William Thomas after he left the podium on the wrong side of the stage during a concert in France.

At the time, Gardiner was conducting his Orchestre Revolutionnaire in a performance of Berlioz’s “Les Troyens” in the composer’s hometown of La Cote-Saint-Andre.
