Members of Canada’s LGBTQ+ community are being warned about possible discrimination when they travel to some U-S states.
In a post issued Tuesday, Global Affairs says Canadians should check relevant state laws because some have new policies and legislation that might affect LGBTQ+ people.
The advisory doesn’t name any specific states, but 18 have passed laws that limit or outright ban gender-affirming medical care for minors, while a dozen more are considering laws that limit or prohibit teaching about sexual orientation in schools.
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freedland says travel advisories are based on advice from professionals whose job it is to monitor for “particular” dangers.
