Even though the RT was 10-years past its natural life and set to be decommissioned in November, the TTC’s decided to pull the plug on Scarborough RT line for good – now.
It’s been closed since a derailment July 24 sent 5 to hospital with minor injuries.
”A comprehensive review, that includes the participation of industry leading consultants, is still underway,” the TTC says in a statement.
”However, given the time required to complete the review, the decision has been made to permanently close the line and begin to implement elements of t he replacement plan.”
In other words, Scarborough transit commuters will be taking buses until the subway extension is finished.
That’s expected to be in 2030.
Eventually, there’s to be a busway along the old RT right-of-way, that’s currently in the designing stage.
The city believes it could take two-years to complete.
