The musicians in the Philadelphia Orchestra, which is led by Canada’s Yannick Nezet-Seguin, have authorized a strike.

Some 95% of members of Local 77 of the American Federation of Musicians voted in favour.

They’re trying to negotiate a new agreement to replace the current four-year deal which expires September 10th.  They want increased compensation and benefits and 15 vacant positions filled.

Management says it’s disappointed by the potential strike but will continue to negotiate a fiscally responsible agreement.
