A year after her election as national president of Unifor, Lana Payne says its an inspiring time to be in the workers movement.
She took the helm of the union on the heels of record low unemployment, which has remained low and given workers more power in their fights to win back purchasing power.
As Unifor kicked off talks with the big three automakers, Payne says the advent of electric vehicles is an opportunity for workers to advance the auto industry. something that hasn’t happened in several years.
Like other unions, Unifor is under intense pressure to deliver more for its workers after the COVID-19 pandemic, breakneck inflation and a staggering succession of interest rates.
