It’s a day to celebrate the ebony felines and debunk some of the myths associated with them.

Among the superstitions associated with black cats is that one crossing your path will bring you bad luck.  They’ve also been folded in to modern Halloween symbols, giving them the unearned reputation of being spooky.  That’s probably why black cats are usually the last to get adopted from shelters.

However, in Japan they’re believed to bring economic success and true love and generally speaking, black cats are actually known to be the most friendly and cuddliest of all the breeds.

So hug a black cat today.
