Her story was one of survival.  It was about Jews as heroic Nazi resisters that became the movie “Defiance.”

Nechama Tec, a Pole who pretended to be Roman Catholic to survive the Holocaust, has died.

Her 1993 novel “Defiance: The Bielski Partisans” was the basis for the 2008 movie “Defiance” which starred Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber.

After the war, she moved to the U.S. and became a holocaust scholar

The book described the courageous actions of Tuvia Bielski, who commanded a resistance group that fought the Nazi’s and more importantly saved some 1,200 Jews by living in a Balarusian forest.

Her son confirmed her death at her home in Manhattan

Nechama Tec was 92.
