A week after a tense demonstration at Toronto’s High Park last week, protestors have returned to the west end park to speak out against plans that limit cars from accessing parts of the park.

A number of seniors and those with disabilities are among the demonstrators.

But Toronto city councillor Gord Perks says council did it’s homework and made the right decision.

“We did both city wide consultations, we did consultations with the surrounding neighbourhood and this was a really robust two year process that over 10,000 people commented on and where we’ve landed I think makes the park safer for everyone and more fun for everyone.”

Perks also says the city is investigating the idea of a train to move people around  and reminds residents that parts of the park remain open to cars on weekdays.

The Zoomer advocacy group CARP is also opposed to the changes and has fired off a letter to Mayor Olivia Chow asking the changes be reversed.
