The actor best known for portraying Pee-Wee Herman has died from cancer.

Paul Reubens was 70.

 

In a statement posted online after his death, Reubens apologized for not going public with his diagnosis to reveal what’s he’s been facing for the last 6 years.

The iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer delighted generations of children and adults with his whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness.

According to the statement posted after his death, Reubens said donations could be made in honor of his late parents to Stand Up to Cancer or organizations researching or supporting care for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
