The labour drama that has affected operations at B-C’s ports has taken another turn.

The workers represented by International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada have voted against accepting a mediated contract offer — which would have ended the threat of job action.

Officials with the B-C Maritime Employers Association are now revealing details included in the offer.

The rejected four-year package reportedly included a wage increase of 19.2%, a signing bonus of $1.48 per hour and an 18.5% increase to a Modernization and Mechanization retirement lump sum payment.

In a statement released to the media and the public, the BCMEA says it is disappointed the four-year tentative agreement was rejected, calling it “a good deal that recognized the skills and efforts of B.C.’s waterfront workforce while providing certainty and stability for the future of Canada’s West Coast ports.”
