They’ve been in his closet for 40 years, but now the combat boots and dog tags wore by Alan Alda in the hit TV show M*A*S*H, have sold for $125-thousand.

The 87-year old actor says he wore the boots and dogs tags for the 11-season run of the show about a Korean War medical unit.

Alda, who played the wisecracking surgeon Hawkeye Pierce, decided to auction off the momentos to raise money for his centre dedicated to helping scientists and doctors communicate better.

The show’s final episode, which aired in 1983 and was written and directed by Alda, was the most watched prime-time TV show in U.S. history.
